Woven Together - Palm Springs/2023
Super Simple Palm Springs is pleased to present “Woven Together” an art exhibit featuring the late photographer Fernando Bengoechea’s images hand woven by his brother Marcelo. The exhibit opens Saturday, February 18th and runs for 30 days. Fernando Bengoechea was a supremely talented, internationally renowned photographer whose work appeared in the top leading publications including; Architectural Digest, Domino, Harpers Bazaar, House Beautiful, Instyle, LA Times, NY Times, NY Magazine, O Magazine, Town and Country, Vanity Fair, and Vogue.
Alongside his stelar professional career, his Fine Art Photography was on the rise, pioneering Woven Photographs whereby he took two identical photographs, hand sliced them in very thin strips and then hand wove them back together creating a work of art within a work of art, filled with texture and emotion. Some of Fernando’s most recognized works are from his “Karma Tree” series shot in Joshua Tree and shown around the world, seven new renditions of them headline this exhibition.
In December 2004, while vacationing in Sri Lanka with his partner, designer Nate Berkus, Fernando was swept by a tsunami and never returned. His tragic death at 39 left a hole on our hearts; thankfully, the timeless beauty of his photos helps to refill them. His brother Marcelo has made it his mission to keep his younger brother’s art alive, following the same weaving technique he creates these unique pieces in his honor, one strip at a time.
We invite you to enjoy this one-of-a-kind extremely personal art show borne out of one brother’s undying love for the other.
