  • FERNANDO BY NATE

  • "He was audacious and complicated and spontaneous and sophisticated and charismatic and demanding and graceful and volatile and extravagant and occasionally impossible. And when he walked into the room, he pretty much owned it." Excerpt from Nate Berkus' book "The Things That Matter".
  • WOVEN PHOTOGRAPHS

  • Fernando's signature style. Woven photographs are made from two identical museum quality archival prints. They are hand cut in very thin strips and hand weaved back together adding complexity, texture, drama and relief to an already striking image. Each piece is completely hand made. Nuances in depth, weaving and alignment make each woven photograph a one of a kind.
  • FROM OPRAH

  • "I want to keep saying Fernando's name out loud because I think it's important for everybody who's lost their life for their life to be more than that moment of death. And his work and his art will live on for everybody who he filmed; for everybody whose life he touched. But we get to see him through his work forever."
  • ARCHIVAL PRINTS

  • Fernando's images are available in easy to frame sizes. Printed sustainably to order with Museum Quality Archival materials. Vintage Stamped and signed by Marcelo on back. Custom sizes available.

1965-2004

Internationally acclaimed photographer Fernando Bengoechea lost his life when he was swept to sea by a massive Tsunami that hit the Indian Ocean in December 2004. He was 39 and his body never found.

You can learn a little more about it from this Oprah Winfrey show.

The Studio at Fernando Bengoechea was created in his memory with the mission of reviving, preserving and evolving his art legacy. His brother, Marcelo, continues Fernando's work by hand-weaving his memorable photographs. His fine art photographs are also available as Museum Quality Archival Prints in several easy to frame sizes.
